Actions Indications

Expectorant
Antispasmodic

Upper respiratory tract, cooling to the mucous membranes.

Cortisol like action

Increases half life of cortisol also increases aldosterone and DHEA. Addison’s disease, also increases oestrogen, amenorrhoea

Ovarian tonic

Specific for ovarian cysts and poly cystic ovaries

Contraindications: Licorice is contraindicated with hypertension, pregnancy, hypokalaemia, cirrhosis of the liver, oedema, kidney disease. High doses may counteract the pill. Give only for max 8 weeks, because it can raise blood pressure, but not if you give a potassium supplement
